Use the HTML-Replace plug-in in topics
Reply Quote
Dear Sirs,
we are using Word2chm 2009 Professional edition.

Is there a way to replace/exclude parts of topics?
We tried the HTML-Replace plug-in, but it didn't work.

Backround:
We would like to tag some topics in the Word file with a signature like "#TARGET1" and then exclude the topic for certain chm-files using the IgnoreTopics plug-in.
The tags are necessary because the Word document is translated into 20 or more languages and we had to make a "ignore - list" for every excluded topic and for every language, if we would do it the "normal way".
With the tags, we advise the translator not to change the tag and can use the tag in every language.
Problem is, the the tags should not appear in the chm-file and therefore have to be striped.

Is there perhaps a completely different way to exclude certain parts of the Word document in certain chm-files? Perhaps depending on some other properties of the text or headings, which could be preserved, when the document is translated to another language?

Best regards
Joachim

Hi Joachim,

Do you want to remove the "#TARGET1" tag itself or want to remove the whole topic with "#TARGET1" tag?

Please send a sample doc to supports@macrobject.com if possible.

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
we have both cases.

We have a couple of different applications (targets). They all need their own chm-help file. Most of the help is the same for all applications. They differ only in some topics.
The aim is to have to maintain and translate only one word file and extract the appropriate chm-help file for every target.
The tags are used to mark a certain topic for a certain target.

Example from the word file:
...
General topic
This is general text for all targets.
   ......

#TARGET1 Topic specific for target 1
This is help specific for target 1. No other target will need this help.
  ........

#TARGET2 Help specific for target 2
This is help for target 2.
  ........

Let's say, we want to generate the chm for TARGET1.
The topic "#TARGET2 Help specific for target 2" should be removed completely. This is no problem. We put "#TARGET2" on the "Ignore topic"-list. For this part of the problem, the "Ignore topic" add-in works perfect.

The marked topic "#TARGET1 Topic specific for target 1" should appear in the chm-file,  but the tag "#TARGET1 " should be removed from the topic so that it is not visible in text AND INDEX of the generated chm.
This is the part, we have not found a solution for so far.
We tried the "HTML replace" add-in. It removes the tag from the text, but not from the index.

I will send a short word file together with our .word2chm files and the generated .chm files to your mail so that you can verify.

Thank's for your help and Best Regards
Joachim
