How does the "Merge sub docs" do? I can't find any difference whenever I checked it or not. Is it a big BUG in Word-2CHM? Or anyone can help me how to use this feature? Thanks. The explanation in the help file make me more confused about this "Merge sub docs", do you mean that I MERGE ALL SUB DOCS by myself by inserting every DOC file to my main Doc one by one as you described? Then what the program will do after I've checked the "Merge sub docs", I'm truly confused about this option, is it useless? To tell the truth, I can't find a way to add one more doc files to Word-2-CHM? By the way, the explanation to this option in the help is too simple... Anyone can help me learn this option? Thank you in advance.

The option is apply to the master documents only. The simple steps:
1. Create a new empty Word document as master document.
2. Insert as many sub-documents as you need to the master document, no need to merge these sub-documents.
3. Save the master document.
4. Convert the master document to chm with the option "Merge sub docs" checked.

Thank you for the quick reply, but it's as simple as the help file itself. Maybe this feature is too simple for you to answer my stupid question:). I followed your steps: 1. I created a new empty DOC file. 2. I insert some DOCs by using the command "Insert file..." 3. All my Doc files have outlines, and they are there. 4. I run your program, create one CHM file with the option "Merge sub docs" checked. and then I create another CHM file with the option "Merge sub docs" unchecked. I can't find any differences between the two CHM files, it seems that the Word-2-CHM do NOTHING with the option "Merge sub docs" checked. I do think that I merged all sub docs by myself, yes, by hand, not by the program. To make things straight, could you please tell us what the benifits I can get from this option? Could you please help us with some more detailed information?

You should use the "insert sub-document" command but not "insert file". Steps for Word 2003 and older:
1. Click the "View" menu and then click the "Outline" menu item.
2. Click the "Insert Subdocument" button on the "Outlining" toolbar to insert your sub-documents.
